Juneteenth Celebration
Saturday, June 17, 2023
9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Juneteenth is an annual commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States after the Civil War, and has been celebrated by African Americans since the late 1800s. The Oldham County History Center held its first Juneteenth Celebration in 2005. The Juneteenth Committee of the Oldham County History Center presents an annual Elijah Marrs Award that recognizes and outstanding member of the Black community who is a mentor and has made significant positive contributions. This year the Celebration will include a chance for Black food vendors, artists, craftsman, authors, and performers to sell their products or demonstrate their talents on the Oldham County History Center campus during the Juneteenth Event.
Other activities will be taking place on the History Center campus and adjacent to the campus:

- Spiritual and Gospel Music Performances of Pleasant View Baptist Church
- Dance and Musical performances
- Gee Taylor’s BBQ
- Food Vendors
- Elijah Marrs Award Presentation
- Hands-on history activities and workshops: Hand Press, Colonial Hearth Cooking, Root Cellar Activities, Feather and Pen writing
