The Oldham County History Center and The Oldham Era will honor the 2023 participants of the Living Treasures Oral History Program. This program is made up of special individuals within the community who provide a link to the past through their oral histories, housed at the History Center. Each year History Center Executive Director, Dr. Nancy Stearns Theiss, interviews and transcribes the life stories of eleven individuals who are honored the following year, along with past Living Treasures. Their stories and pictures are featured once a month in The Oldham Era. Special portraits of each recipient are made by photographers Peter Campbell and Bobbi Nelson.

The 2023 Living Treasures are: Bettie Miller, Bob Thompson, Charlie Oldham, Darlene Elzy, Dorothy Abernathy, Gus Dauble, Judge Jerry Crosby, Jim Zimmerman, Magaly DeValle, Terry Chambers and Mike Foster.

A reception to honor the Living Treasures will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024

at 1 p.m. in the Rob Morris Educational Building at the Oldham County History Center, located at 207 W. Jefferson St. in La Grange. As a part of the History Center’s “200 Years of Stories” tribute to the Oldham County’s Bicentennial Celebration, author and re-enactor, Eddie Price will present a program about living on the Kentucky frontier.

Information about Eddie Price:

After teaching high school and college history for 36 years, Eddie Price embarked upon the career of a full-time writer. His historical novels Widder’s Landing, One Drop-A Slave! and Rebels Abroad gained instant critical acclaim and he began presenting programs to historical and genealogical societies, libraries and arts councils, patriotic organizations, schools, colleges, and universities. His children’s books, illustrated by Mark Wayne Adams, soon became a hit with younger audiences. The Little Miss Grubby Toes Misadventure Series is popular with children all over America. Winner of Moms Choice Awards, Florida Authors & Publishers Awards and Readers Favorite Awards, Eddie visits schools, book fairs, and events with an engaging reading program, puppet show, singing, and activities. Eddie serves on the Kentucky Humanities Council Speakers Bureau and is a Kentucky Chautauqua performer, portraying the winning jockey of the 1913 Kentucky Derby, Roscoe Tarleton Goose.
